BC's most sought after traditional Chinese lion and dragon dance performance group
Since it's founding in 2006, the Chinese Lion Dancers [CLD] has become one of the most sought after traditional Chinese lion dance performance groups in British Columbia. Based out of Vancouver and Richmond, the group has been invited to perform at hundreds of events and venues across British Columbia as well as in neighbouring Provinces and Territories.
The CLD is based in Richmond and Vancouver; they perform the traditional CLD, Dragon Dance, Unicorn Dance and Drum Performances.
They perform year-round at a variety of events and occasions, ranging from weddings, sporting events, celebrations, business grand openings to major festivals, in and out of the Greater Vancouver area.
Under the guidance of the senior troupe members, each with more than 10 years of experience, the CLD also runs a training program to teach those interested in learning the traditional Chinese lion dance. With their ever-expanding repertoire of dances and techniques, the CLD hopes to share the art and culture of the Chinese Lion Dance with those unfamiliar to it.
In addition to having a strong group of performers, the CLD prides itself on having the largest selection of top-of-the-line performance gear and costumes in Vancouver. The CLD is also one of a very few groups in British Columbia who have access to and perform with LED embedded and glow-in-the-dark costumes. These performances, being more unique and specialized, are tailored to the clients' specifications by the CLD choreographers.
What sets the CLD apart from other groups is its repertoire of lesser known dance forms and techniques. It is one of the only groups in Vancouver to regularly perform a high-pole lion dance routine, drunken lion routine, and various different dances; such as the kirin and dragon.
Aside from private functions such as weddings and business grand openings, the CLD is often invited to perform at large high-profile public functions. A short list of the CLD's more noteable performances are as follows:
